Enhancing the Lives of Veterans Through Canine Companions

We are passionate about matching you with the perfect service dog to meet your needs.

Empowering Veterans Living with PTSD and TBI

At Assistance Dogs of the Heartland, our mission is to support veterans living with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) by providing them with specially trained service dogs. These assistance dogs are more than just companions; they are expertly trained to help with a variety of tasks that promote emotional stability, independence, and improved quality of life. Whether it’s mitigating anxiety, offering physical support, or assisting with daily routines, our service dogs are carefully matched with veterans to meet their unique needs, fostering a bond that leads to greater self-confidence and well-being.

Meet Our Trusted Companions In Training

  • Profile of a gray dog with light eyes against a black background.

    Harper

Harper is Black Labrador Retriever who is ready for action and her next adventure. She loves to chase and chew but has a great “off switch” and loves to work! She is quickly learning to focus and check-in while navigating people, cars, and lots of great smells!

  • A happy, light-colored dog with floppy ears, black nose, and tongue out, facing forward against a black background.

    Hope

Hope is an Golden Retriever with a heart of gold who loves to give hugs! She has never met a person she did not want to cuddle. Hope is a big fan of toys, treats, and making people happy. However, she doesn’t care for vacuum cleaners and elevators but with a little more training she will learn they are not scary!

  • A black and white dog with one brown eye, sitting against a plain black background, looking at the camera with tongue out.

    Skye

Skye is a Black Labrador Retriever who has gone from naughty to nice. She still has the heart (and occasional brain) of a puppy but is a fast learner and ready to please. She loves sniffing, cuddling, and walks by the lake.

  • A close-up of a brown and white speckled dog looking directly at the camera against a black background.

    Maverick

I’m Maverick. I awaken in the middle of the night to the sound of coyotes howling but my terrifying bark scares them away. I enjoy harassing my brother and chewing stuff.

  • Profile of a brindle-coated dog looking to the right against a black background.

    Gunner

I’m Gunner. I enjoy wrestling with my brother Maverick (and winning) but I am sweet and thoughtful with the ladies. My favorite things are long strolls in the park, candlelit dinners, and spending cozy nights in watching Netflix.
